The WordPress functions the_content and get_the_content are used to pull the main text area from the page or post

The difference between them is in the way they are used. the_content() echoes WordPress editor’s content and it’s used inside the template files while get_the_content() is fetching it to be used in the PHP code as a variable.

Please note that there is also the_content filter which is used to apply styling and shortcodes by running a chain of filters like wp_autop which adds the tags. The full list of running filters trough the_content filter are wptexturize, convert_smilies, convert_chars, shortcode_unautop, and maybe one of the most used ones do_shortcode.

Now we can dig deeper into the functions

get_the_content pulls the copy directly from the database as a raw string containing the unwrapped shortcodes. In order to make that useful, you will need to pass the data through the_content filter which will give you an appropriate HTML output.

$content = apply_filters( ‘the_content’, get_the_content() );

And last but definitely not least is the_content. This function will echo the properly formatted content directly into your template. In its essence the_content calls get_the_content and applies the_content filter before echoing the result.

WordPress 5.7 “Esperanza”

Bringing you fresh colors in the admin, simpler interactions in the editor, and controls right where you need them, WordPress 5.7 lets you focus on the content you create.

Meet “Esperanza”, the first WordPress release of 2021. “Esperanza” is named in honor of Esperanza Spalding, a modern musical prodigy. Her path as a musician is varied and inspiring—learn more about her and give her music a listen!

With this new version, WordPress brings you fresh colors. The editor helps you work in a few places you couldn’t before without getting into code or hiring a pro. The controls you use most are right where you need them. Layout changes that should be simple, are even simpler to make.

Now the new editor is easier to use

  • Font-size adjustment in more places: now, font-size controls are right where you need them in the List and Code blocks. No more trekking to another screen to make that single change!
  • Reusable blocks: several enhancements make reusable blocks more stable and easier to use. And now they save automatically with the post when you click the Update button.
  • Inserter drag-and-drop: drag blocks and block patterns from the inserter right into your post.

You can do more without writing custom code for your WordPress

  • Full-height alignment: have you ever wanted to make a block, like the Cover block, fill the whole window? Now you can.
  • Buttons block: now you can choose a vertical or a horizontal layout. And you can set the width of a button to a preset percentage.
  • Social Icons block: now you can change the size of the icons.

A simpler default color palette

  • This new streamlined color palette collapses all the colors that used to be in the WordPress source code down to seven core colors and a range of 56 shades that meet the WCAG 2.0 AA recommended contrast ratio against white or black.
  • Find the new palette in the default WordPress Dashboard color scheme, and use it when you’re building themes, plugins, or any other components. For all the details, check out the Color Palette dev note.

WordPress Site From HTTP to HTTPS in a single click

Starting now, switching a site from HTTP to HTTPS is a one-click move. WordPress will automatically update database URLs when you make the switch. No more hunting and guessing!

New Robots API

The new Robots API lets you include the filter directives in the robots meta tag, and the API includes the max-image-preview: large directive by default. That means search engines can show bigger image previews, which can boost your traffic (unless the site is marked not-public).

Lazy-load your iFrames

Now it’s simple to let iframes lazy-load. By default, WordPress will add a loading="lazy" attribute to iframe tags when both width and height are specified.

Ongoing cleanup after update to jQuery 3.5.1

For years jQuery helped make things move on the screen in ways the basic tools couldn’t—but that keeps changing, and so does jQuery.

In 5.7, jQuery gets more focused and less intrusive, with fewer messages in the console.

get_header and get_footer for WordPress Template

get_header() and get_footer() from specific WordPress Template Folder

Step One: Create Custom Page Template in your root WordPress theme folder

Instead of adding an additional new custom template file in your WordPress template folder, you can create a new folder with a specific name to serve any custom WordPress Page Templates to assign them to specific Pages in your WordPress website.

I Got a new Land Page in the WordPress Page Templates Folder Like the example below:

page-templates/landing-amp.php

To get the new custom page template layout available to assign it to your specific page on the website you need to hook the function for this.

Step Two: At the top of your custom page template file add the related function from WordPress Codex

<?php /* Template Name: Landing AMP Projects */;?>

To learn more about how it’s work visit Creating Custom Page Templates for Global Use

Step Three: Create New Folder in your WordPress root Template Folder to serve the new files for get_header() and get_footer() functions

In my example, I create a new folder in my current active WordPress Template folder with the name “lamp“. In the new folder create your custom get_header() and get_footer() files to load on your custom page template. The customized head and footer files are served as template parts and are not necessary to name them with

  • header-{custom-name}.php
  • footer-{custom-name}.php

This is because we will get them with the WordPress function get_template_part() and will not serve this 2 new header and footer required WordPress Template files from the root how it is by the default function for WordPress Templates to include Template Tags – Include_Tags

Step Four: Create two new files in the “lamp” folder as the example below

  • /lamp/header-amp.php
  • /lamp/footer-amp.php

Step Five: Open your Custom Page Template from Step One and below the 1st-row code the snippets below

  • <?php get_template_part( ‘lamp/header-amp’ );?>
  • <?php get_template_part( ‘lamp/footer-amp’ );?>

What is the General Usage of wp_title() function

The wp_title() WordPress Function is used for display or retrieve page title for all areas of blog

By default, the page title will display the separator before the page title, so that the blog title will be before the page title. This is not good for title display, since the blog title shows up on most tabs and not what is important, which is the page that the user is looking at.
